I posted this pic on Facebook the other day and got a bunch of messages from people:

Hey! Break Stash on that GORGEOUS LOOKING Blueberry Smoothie Recipe!

So here you go!

This is one of my most delicious & simple GO TO smoothie recipes for an uber-nourishing, detoxifying, hormone balancing, energy infusing, kick-start breakfast. When I look at many recipes out there on the SMOOTH-ES-SPHERE,  they usually, have too much fruit  & sugar in them and they  aren’t balanced in a way that will give you sustained energy. Fruit is lovely, but the natural sugars in fruits STILL can hit your blood stream hard, and can give your insulin & cortisol (belly-fat hormone!) a big jolt, so they need to be well diluted/ mitigated/and balanced with a good combination of fiber, fats and protein to make you feel  calm, energized AND satisfied for 3-4 hours.

I rarely use more than a half of a banana (sugah, sugah!), and I infuse my fruit smoothies with low glycemic fruits like berries & cherries.

My daily rotation go-to protein powder combinationa are between a VEGAN Protein Powder with added fiber, prebiotics + probiotics + creatine and CLA for assisting lean muscle to fat ratio, OR I do my Paleo Power Protein which loaded with collagen a highly bio-available protein. I mostly rotate every other day with these two, although lately I’ve been leaning more towards the Paleo Protein with added fiber, greens & probiotic. This is what I call my “boutique” combo.

I add healthy fats like unsweetened coconut flakes, nut butters or avocado. And last but not least I add a really good fiber blend. Fiber really is one of my main weight loss secrets.  Fiber is a super hero for many other reasons but basically it acts like a clean sweep to your entire digestive tract and it also keeps you feeling full longer.  It slows down the transit of nutrients to your blood stream so you get a nice steady does of nourishment for a longer period of time.  Which pans out to steady, CALM energy mojo rather than a big spike and a bigger drop afterwards.  It’s hard to get enough fiber.  I shoot for 35-45 grams a day.  I like a good blend of fiber types because sometimes flax or chia can give me some bloat…

TMI? Sorry ;).  If you are new to added fiber start SLOW adding a little more to your diet (smoothie) each week. AND be sure to UP your daily water intake.  This will really help move things along, (A-hemmmm) nicely.

Also, I LOVE what omega EFA/DHA fish oils do for my bod pod, but I hate taking big ol’ nasty fish oil pills, so I often add a excellent lemon flavored liquid swirl type of fish oil to get that sneaked in!

Stuff you’ll need:

1-2 scoops high quality non-soy, non-whey NO SUGAR, VEGAN protein Powder OR Clean & Lean Power Paleo Protein – I created products JUST for this purpose Clean & Lean VEGAN Power Protein OR Clean & Lean Power PALEO Protein

1/2-3/4 cup frozen organic blueberries

1 TBSP organic almond/pecan butter or other (non-peanut) nut butter,  or avocado

1 TBSP ground flax seed, chia seed, or I use this one most of the time because the others give me a bit of well…bloat..TMI, probably…

1 cup water  or unsweetened coconut milk (more or less)

ADD IN’S 1/4 Avocado, handful kale or spinach, a pinch of cinnamon, 1/2-1 tablespoon pure unsweetend cocoa, high potency EPA/EFA purity tested fish oil.  Here’s the one I Love: Clean & Clear Power Omega lemon Swirl -because it’s the best quality and it’s not a big ol’ fishy elephant pill 😉 Who likes to burp up fishy burps? Me neither. Lastly if you’d like to up your greens big time I use this Clean & Lean Power Greens powder.  It’s LOADED with antioxidents, and contains no alfalfa and other cheap fillers that most greens powders have.  Alfalfa can be inflammatory if you are not a horse :).

How to make it:

Blend all ingredients (except protein powder) in high speed blender (like Vitamix or Magic Bullet), until smooth, THEN add in protein powder for 15 seconds.

  1. I’m a huge proponent for flax in EVERYTHING! I have dry eye, and my eye doctor has me put it in everything so I love when I can find a smoothie recipe to have it in there too. It helps so much and it also helps with my (TMI) IBS! This smoothie is sooo, for me!

    1. Hey @Danielle, This is FABULOUS! And no worries on the IBS TMI…this comment could help someone else with IBS and there are lot’s of peeps out there with it!

      1. I’ve found that both Flax and CLA help my dry eye problem. Dropped the CLA for a week and was miserable!

        1. Great to hear @A.R. CLA is a great supplement and I actually added it to my new Clean & Lean Power Protein Powder since I’m such a fan of it for a many different reasons! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I could definitely go for an “uber-nourishing, detoxifying, hormone balancing, energy infusing, kick-start breakfast.” This looks tasty as well as satisfying. We love smoothies for breakfast, but are often hungry after an hour. We don’t add the protein or the healthy fats. :/

Does your lemon-infused fish oil eliminate the fishy flavor? My taste detectives (hubby and seven kids) can sense a drop of something “sneaky” I hide in their smoothies. It took me a while to get the hubby to drink a smoothie with a couple leaves of spinach in it–the kids were fine, but I didn’t get to raise the hubby. 😉

Anyway, thanks for a great recipe! I’m going to use this as a base for other flavors, like multi-berry.
