Ciao! I’m Lisa.
I’m a Certified Health & Weight Loss Coach, Lifestyle Educator & Mind & Body Nourishment Guide for active, food & wine loving powerhouse women and men over 45.
Translation: I help smart, determined people who have been feeling discouraged about aging and how they are feeling, to overcome their mid-life health challenges, and start feeling incredible about their lives & bodies again even if it’s been a while.
With the right bio-individual nutritional info, a few lifestyle shifts, and mindset coaching you can break free from the cycles keeping you stuck in limbo at mid-age – you can feel even better than you did at 20.
It IS completely possible. I know this personally because at 54 years old, I’ve battled a few things. I know what it’s like to feel, and look; not so bueno. I’ve been there and, well….quite frankly; it pissed me off and completely threw me off track, while motivating me to do something about it, at about the same time.
I have scientific & mindset based solutions that will help you feel and look your BEST EVER.
This is what I do. This is what I adore.
I am so glad that you are here.
In case you were wondering:
I’m a Board Certified Health & Weight Loss Coach, Certified Therapeutic Lifestyle Educator and (former practicing) professional interior designer.
I received my Holistic Health Coach certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and Columbia University, and my Health and Wellness board certification from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP).
I am also a certified L.E. – Lifestyle Educator and well as an advanced trained Hormone Cure Coach through Dr. Sara Gottfried a Harvard trained O.B.G.Y.N and the author of the bestselling book The Hormone Cure and The Hormone Reset Diet.
I am certified as a weight loss coach via the Life Coach School under the brilliant Brooke Castillo – a nationally known pioneer in permanent weight loss, and the author of “If I’m So Smart, Why Can’t I Lose Weight?” L.C.S is where I learned how to train my brain. If you want to dive deep, this is the place to go.
As you may have gathered by now, I am insatiable when it comes to learning the absolute MOST EFFECTIVE and scientifically proven ways to help my clients (and my family), look & feel their best, no matter what may be going on, in there…
So, for my latest number, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m enrolled in two of the BEST programs I have found, that thoroughly and intelligently, address what I’m deeply passionate about, after, considerable experience, working in the field of functional nutrition.
What it has boiled down to, at this point, is my desire is to practice lifestyle coaching, and functional nutrition education, with tools that extend to the deepest level of health and overall well-being for even the most difficult health challenges that many people are facing with little or no results. So right now I’m in Andrea Nakayama’s Full Body Systems Course (FABULOUS!!!), AND at the same time I am in Tom Malterre’s brilliant, Progressive Practitioner Coaching Program
Not only is Tom’s program clinically relevant for the kinds of challenges I help people navigate, but his classes are inspiring and FUN!
I highly recommend both courses!
Yada, yada, yada, that’s just a sliver of my story for now.
From outside in, to inside out: My journey to coaching.
Once upon a time, I studied architecture and communications at the University of Oregon and the University of California at Santa Barbara. I have always adored great design, even as a little girl –
I spent two and a half decades running a successful interior design business, helping people craft beautiful residential and commercial spaces.
I designed from “the outside in.” I loved facilitating the intimate connection between people and their environments by creating homes and businesses aligned with an aesthetic that reflected how they desired to live.
Despite the fact that I had a thriving business, and a string of beloved clients alongside me, I wasn’t fulfilled by the work any longer.
A more profound calling was tugging at me – and it took a health scare to bring it to the surface.
I was working crazy hours, and struggling through a divorce and a major mid-life crisis.
After a while, the stress started to take its toll – and I could feel it.
Something was painfully wrong with my digestion, my hormones were all over the place, & I was bloated and always uncomfortable.
My food & lifestyle didn’t seem that bad from the outside, but I was undoubtedly a caffeine & stress junkie, and I loved my wine, diet Pepsi, and dinners out with the girls.
Finally, my doctor gave me the lowdown:
I had pre-cancerous polyps on my colon;
and a lot of them.
The news hit me like a freight train.
Moi? I had been eating well for the most part, since I was a bambino.
My parents were part of the original Alice Waters, Tassahara, Carmel, California foodie movement – ya, I hate that word too….
I was a kid who showed up after summer diving practice, at the health food store, to order a whole wheat sandwich, with avocado, mayo, alfalfa sprouts and CURRY for gawd sake! And this was in the 70’s!
How did this happen to me?
I was perplexed, but because I’m a FIXER by nature, I was inspired (A.K.A. firmly kicked in the a$$) by this diagnosis which propelled me into embarking on an extensive health sojourn, leaving no stone unturned.
At first, I went the traditional route from doctor to doctor. Nothing worked well or for long, and everything prescribed seemed to have side effects worse than the actual problem. I decided I didn’t want to take a cocktail of pills to mask the symptoms of what was wrong with my health. There had to be a more natural way.
I kept asking myself:
WHY were these things happening in the first place? And how can I heal, not just the symptoms but to get to the root of the problem so I can find the cause and fix it?
I started exploring how the digestive system worked, and different herbs and holistic ways to help the process. Also, I began to realize, that perhaps; stress was no longer a trusted friend. The more I researched, the more I understood that every part of my life was affecting my health.
It wasn’t just about what was on my plate. It was the way I was treating myself, how I handled stress, my activity levels, what I did when I was feeling upset or frustrated… everything tied to the way my body was reacting.
While I’d spent most of my life creating beautiful interior spaces from the outside in, my journey to crafting a beautiful life was finally beginning to unfold.
And that meant designing ME, from the inside out.
I decided: if I figured this out, I would close my interior design practice and start teaching what I was learning to other smart women and men in the same predicament.
Gradually, I learned more empowering way of thinking, and that transformed to a different way of eating, exercise, and better relationships.
I finally was able to shift away from the not-so-healthy situations, cycles, and habits that were keeping from feeling fantastic and from being the kind of person I wanted to be.
And everything changed.
My digestive issues subsided and ended. My energy skyrocketed. The puffiness in my face, hands, and joints vanished. Also, the constant brain fog and belly bloat disappeared. All of this happened simply because I was learning to live a life that nourished me from the inside out.
I felt so much better; I couldn’t wait to share what I had learned with others. So I began to take fewer design jobs, and dove headfirst into Health Coach and Weight Coach training. I became certified as a Firstline Therapy Educator under the tutelage of Dr. Jeffrey Bland who is considered the head honcho guru dude of functional medicine. Also I trained with Dr. Sara Gottfried to become a Hormone Cure Coach in her advanced training program.
However, I guess I can say that I pretty much live, eat and breathe to help the over 50 crowd rock their health; this is what I do, and what I love to do, more than almost anything.
That brings us to the here and now.
Nowadays, I attend cooking school two times a year, usually in Italy, and I specialize in simple, healthy gourmet cooking. I love sharing what I learn with my clients.
So, since you sat through the highlight reel,
here are some trivia tidbits:
- I’m 54, and I feel better now than I did when I was 24 or 34… Really.
- I struggled with my weight for years. At one point I was 60 pounds heavier than I am now. It has been about 25 years since I ended that struggle, and it was devastating. That’s part of why I’m so passionate about sharing what I know now
- I l-o-v-e to cook, but don’t think I’ve ever actually completely followed a recipe. My baking sucks, but I don’t care
- People who love to laugh are my oasis. So I firmly believe that funny covers a multitude of sins
- I have beautiful parents who taught me everything I know about living an artful life and thinking outside the box.
- I enjoy my grown children as people. If they weren’t my kids, they’d be my favorite kindred friends.
- I call my husband Fabulous Husband or FH, because he is SO kind and SO smart and he deserves it #icanbeahandful
- I think hiking in the rain is actually fun, but I’m also a yoga in a warm room kind of gal
- I believe self-care is an attitude, and not necessarily a manicure. Taking care of ourselves – body, mind, and spirit – is ultimately very unselfish
- I can’t remember numbers and dates, but I have a photographic memory for botanical plant names. It hasn’t been as handy as I would have liked
- I believe in God, and experiencing that presence and love in my life strengthens me to be more USEFUL in service to others, and my spiritual practices help me stay grounded so that I can be doing everything I’m guided to do, more mindfully, joyfully and with purpose
- Oh and humor….there’s got to be some joy and humor DAILY in our lives or we are just gonna be toast
But, enough about me, s’riously, I’m exhausting both of us!
Let’s get, Back to YOU.
